History
Robert Louis Stevenson College and Career Preparatory opened on February 1, 1926.
The first student body consisted of 750 pupils. Forty teachers made up the faculty, under
the leadership of Mr. James Hutt, the first principal.
Mr. Hutt remained the principal of our school for twenty-two and one-half years.

SCHOOL TRADITIONS
Our school was named in 1926 for the famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson.
Mr. Stevenson is especially noted for his stories and poems for children. The first
students of this school selected one of Mr. Stevenson’s most popular books,
Treasure Island, as the basis for establishing our school traditions.
They are as follows:
School Motto—“Forth and Forever Forward”
School Colors—Red and Black
School Magazine—Tusitala (a magazine of stories, poems, and artwork by students)
Yearbook—Treasure Chest
Students of Stevenson have an obligation to honor and to preserve the traditions
the first students so proudly set forth.
